Stevens was a mineral surveyor in Tucson, Arizona. From the guide to the Thomas N. Stevens papers, 1914-1964, (University of Arizona Libraries, Special Collections) Stevens was born in Wisconsin on May 6, 1835. He married Caroline E. Silsbee in Columbus (Wis.) on Jan. 31, 1856.
